Dr Patel is a Consultant Physician in Infectious Diseases and HIV Medicine at the Infectious Diseases Clinic, Vedanta Institute of Medical Sciences and a Director of the department of Infectious Diseases at Sterling Hospital, Ahmedabad. He is also a Visiting Assistant Professor in Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases at the University of South Florida, Tampa, Florida. USA. He has a special interest in HIV/TB co-infections and his group has done good work on the effectiveness and durability of standard dose efavirenz-based antiretroviral treatment along with rifampicin-based anti-TB treatment in TB co-infected HIV patients. His group is running an effective prevention programme for mother-to-child transmission at the ID Clinic, Ahmedabad. In addition to these he has also done an observational cohort on low dose Indinavir/ritonavir (400/100) plus 2nRTI as second line therapy to NNRTI failure patients.
